Canyon County Unveils New Buildings Funded by ARPA Grant

Canyon County, Idaho, is utilizing federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to construct several new buildings to improve county services.

Elections Building

Voters in Canyon County will soon have a significantly more spacious and efficient elections building. The new facility, four times larger than the current space, will allow for:

  • On-site storage of voting equipment
  • Dedicated space for poll worker training
  • Early voting location

This project, estimated at $4.7 million, is nearing completion and is expected to be operational by December 2024 or January 2025.

Sheriff's Administration Building

To accommodate the growing Canyon County Sheriff's Office, a new three-story administration building is planned. This 83,500-square-foot facility will provide ample space for the department's operations for the next 20–30 years, including:

  • S.W.A.T. vehicles
  • Pretrial services
  • Criminal investigations
  • Interview rooms
  • Dedicated rest area for deputies

The building will also have space for future expansion needs. Construction is expected to begin in January 2025, with a completion target of 13 months.

West Valley Humane Society Kennel Upgrade

Canyon County partnered with the West Valley Humane Society to improve animal welfare. ARPA funds were used to construct a climate-controlled environment for several kennels, featuring:

  • Insulated roofs and walls
  • Floor heating

This upgrade will ensure a more comfortable environment for animals and staff at the shelter, with completion expected by June 12th, 2024.

New Warehouse

A new 12,500-square-foot warehouse, four times larger than the previous facility, has already been completed by the county. This additional storage space will benefit the sheriff's office and emergency management programs by providing room for:

  • Equipment and property storage
  • Vehicles and trailers
  • Potential records storage

These ARPA-funded projects represent significant investments in improving county services for Canyon County residents.
