Construction Underway on Biddeford Primary School Expansion

Construction is underway on the $9 million expansion project at Biddeford Primary School, with progress moving ahead as planned. Superintendent Jeremy Ray provided an update during the Dec. 11 Biddeford School Committee meeting, confirming that power has been connected to the new wing, which will have its own energy source.

Ray noted that upon returning from winter vacation, students will begin to see the formation of walls. “It’s pretty exciting,” Ray said, emphasizing the ongoing efforts despite challenges like rain. Construction crews are working diligently to get the roof and walls up before snow hits.

The expansion is funded by a $9 million construction bond approved by voters last November, with a completion goal of fall 2025. The new wing will improve the academic environment for pre-K to second grade students and eliminate the need for transitions between schools.

“It’s about building a brighter future for our students,” Ray said, highlighting the importance of this renovation. As part of the project, the city will close the John F. Kennedy School, which is in disrepair, while exploring future uses for the facility. Mayor Martin Grohman praised the expansion, calling it an exciting project for the community.
