Jersey Seeks Contractors for Major Hospital Project
Contractors are being invited to submit bids for a new acute hospital construction project in Jersey.
The Government of Jersey has launched the process for awarding a contract for the new facility at Overdale, St Helier.
Although the total cost of the project has not been disclosed, the Government of Jersey has allocated £710 million for the construction at Overdale, as well as for the development of two additional health facilities.
The details of the tender were released in a contract notice on Tuesday, 17 December, following a prior information notice published on 13 December.
A main works delivery partner (MWDP) will be chosen to oversee the design, construction, testing, and commissioning of the hospital.
Demolition and site clearance have already been completed at the location, and construction is expected to begin in September of next year.

A planning application for the hospital was submitted in September, with work expected to be completed by 2028. The facility will feature an accident and emergency department, operating theatres, and inpatient wards.
The project also includes necessary infrastructure, such as surface car parking with landscaped areas.
The new hospital will be designed with five levels, including a plant floor, and will add more than 60 acute overnight beds compared to the current Jersey General Hospital.
The layout follows a campus-style design, focusing on a central "heart" of the facility. To minimize the building's impact on surrounding residences, the structure's mass has been stepped back, and its tallest clinical floors will be two stories lower than a previous design.
According to the prior information notice (PIN): “It is intended that we appoint a single MWDP for the acute hospital at Overdale who will design and construct a new circa 47,500 square metres Acute Hospital with associated services and external spaces.”
The MWDP will be required to provide a full range of services throughout the pre-construction, construction, and commissioning phases until practical completion. The Jersey government has emphasized that it is exploring modern construction methods to "minimise delays in construction due to site size and accessibility."
Furthermore, the government stated: “The work required for the acute hospital at Overdale is substantial and demands specialised experience. The publication of the PIN is an important step to ensure that the right suppliers, equipped with the necessary skills and expertise, are secured for this major infrastructure project.”
The closing date for applications is 17 January 2025. Those interested can register for more information by emailing NHFProcure@gov.je.
