Vermont Construction Company has been cited for housing its workers in hazardous and unsafe living conditions in Colchester, Vermont. The town issued an emergency order to vacate a portion of its office space at 182 Hegeman Avenue, which had been housing 17 individuals without the necessary safety approvals. Town officials found multiple safety violations, including the absence of smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, and carbon monoxide detectors, labeling the property "structurally unsafe."

This is the second time in recent months that the company has faced similar issues. In September, officials discovered 60 workers living in unsafe conditions at a different property in Colchester. With no fire alarms or sprinklers, the property was deemed uninhabitable.

Dana Kamencik, co-owner of Vermont Construction, expressed the company's commitment to addressing the violations: “We are working closely with the appropriate authorities to address these issues and ensure compliance moving forward.” The company is also facing violations at several other properties in the region.

Despite these concerns, Vermont Construction emphasized its efforts to balance the need for housing with safety requirements, aiming to resolve the issues and maintain community trust.
