Drivers will continue to face restrictions and closures across downtown as the Downtown Ramp-Up project progresses along Interstate 70 and Interstate 71. Though no exact date is set, the Front Street bridge is expected to open in late summer or early fall of 2025. Once that bridge opens, the High Street bridge will close for its own construction work.
Lane restrictions will also remain in place on U.S. Route 33 in the Plain City/Dublin area but are scheduled to conclude by the end of 2025.
New Projects on the Horizon
Drivers will begin to experience new restrictions in the coming year along I-70 on the west side, where crews will resurface lanes in both directions from the Madison County line to Hilliard-Rome Road.
Additionally, more overnight closures are anticipated on Interstate 270 on the southeast side, particularly between I-70 and Alum Creek Drive, as resurfacing continues. These closures are expected to increase in spring.
On the north side of town, a widening project is set to begin this summer along I-270, leading to Polaris. Lanes will be added to the ramp from I-270 eastbound to I-71 northbound. According to ODOT officials, this area frequently sees accidents during busy travel times.
Hannah Salem, a spokesperson for ODOT District 6, explained, "That project will be adding an additional lane on I-270 eastbound, going to I-71 northbound. This is an area where we see a lot of frequent backups and crashes, just due to the proximity of the three interchanges, for 315 and 23 and 71. So we’re hoping that this will help move more people through the interchange and will hopefully reduce that congestion downstream."
Another project under discussion is the widening of US-33 on the southeast side. ODOT officials sought public feedback in the fall from those who commute on this route. "We’ll be coming back to the public with more information on that project as it advances," said Salem.
