CooperBuild Opens In-House Millwork Shop in NYC Area

CooperBuild Launches Millwork Facility to Elevate NYC Construction Standards

NEW YORK, N.Y. — August 6, 2025 — CooperBuild, a New York-based general contractor known for its premium residential and commercial renovations, has opened a new 5,000-square-foot millwork facility in Yonkers. The move marks a major step toward enhancing craftsmanship, customization, and workflow efficiency across the company’s growing portfolio of design-driven projects.

Located at 540 Nepperhan Ave., Unit B40, the in-house shop will enable CooperBuild to produce custom cabinetry, trim, paneling, and built-ins with greater precision and faster turnaround, while also fostering deeper collaboration with architects and interior designers.

“Opening our own millwork shop allows us to control quality, accelerate timelines, and deliver the detailed finishes our clients expect,” said Adam Hicks, founder and CEO of CooperBuild.

Hicks founded the company in 2012 after spending 15 years in equity trading and portfolio management. Motivated by his own frustrations with poorly managed renovations, he saw a chance to apply financial discipline and process-driven thinking to the construction industry.

“Coming from a finance background where precision and process are essential, I saw an opportunity to apply those same principles to an industry often defined by inefficiency,” Hicks added.

Precision Craftsmanship Meets Streamlined Construction

The in-house millwork shop is designed to bring a higher level of control and accountability to every phase of the build process. With the ability to prototype faster, customize at scale, and ensure finish consistency, CooperBuild aims to reduce project delays, rework, and coordination errors often caused by third-party suppliers.

The facility also enhances the company’s ability to deliver integrated, design-forward solutions on Brooklyn brownstone restorations and high-end Manhattan commercial interiors—two sectors where craftsmanship and timeline precision are paramount.

Expanding a Unique Construction Model

CooperBuild currently operates with a 40-person team across New York and New Jersey, leveraging proprietary software tools to streamline project communication and ensure real-time transparency for clients. Their hybrid approach blends old-world craftsmanship with modern project management systems—something Hicks believes sets them apart in the competitive NYC market.

“We built CooperBuild to solve the frustrations of poor coordination and unclear expectations,” Hicks said. “This facility is another step in that mission—it brings key capabilities under one roof, close to the heart of where our clients live and work.”

The millwork shop also supports CooperBuild’s commitment to collaboration, particularly with architects and interior designers who rely on construction partners that can bring vision to life without compromise. By handling fabrication in-house, the company can better support bespoke design elements while maintaining agility in scheduling and quality assurance.

A Growing Team and Vision

In line with this expansion, CooperBuild is actively recruiting for multiple roles and encourages designers, developers, and project managers to explore partnership opportunities. The company name pays homage to Cooper, the founder’s yellow Labrador retriever, whose personality—“loyal, steady, and detail-oriented”—helped inspire the firm’s identity and values.

“Our team is united by a passion for craft and a commitment to transparency. We’re excited to keep growing with partners who care about thoughtful, design-first construction,” Hicks said.
