Dusty Robotics Launches AutoCAD Plugin for Automated Layout

Dusty Robotics Expands FieldPrint Platform with AutoCAD Integration
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (Sept. 15, 2025) — Dusty Robotics, the construction robotics company known for pioneering multi-trade automated layout, has announced the release of its Dusty for AutoCAD plugin, now available through the Autodesk App Store. This launch brings a significant new capability to Dusty’s FieldPrint Platform, bridging the gap between design and field execution.

The new plugin is designed to automate the preparation of robot-ready drawings by extracting layout information directly from coordinated multi-trade AutoCAD models. With this integration, design teams can generate print-ready files for the Dusty FieldPrinter 2 with minimal workflow changes, dramatically reducing friction between office-based designers and field crews.
“Design software integration is an integral part of our vision of delivering field intelligence to building crews,” said Tessa Lau, CEO and co-founder of Dusty Robotics. “Our AutoCAD plugin removes friction between design and field teams by translating the digital design directly into the information field crews see on the jobsite floor. This integration is a core part of our plan to orchestrate the work done on construction sites, delivering perfect outcomes by directing the work of every person, machine, and robot on site. With Dusty’s Field Intelligence, contractors eliminate quality erosion and protect their hard-earned profits.”
Tackling a Costly Industry Problem
The construction industry loses an estimated 10% of profit margins annually due to poor coordination and layout conflicts on jobsites. Traditional manual layout methods are labor-intensive, slow, and prone to human error, creating inefficiencies that impact both cost and schedule.
By automating layout, Dusty Robotics aims to help contractors recover those lost profits while adapting to a labor market where skilled layout professionals are increasingly hard to find.
The AutoCAD integration joins Dusty’s existing compatibility with Autodesk Revit® and the cloud-based Dusty Portal, giving contractors multiple options to coordinate across trades. The software ensures all teams work from a single source of truth, reducing miscommunication and rework.

Features Designed for the Field

The plugin incorporates best practices from thousands of projects, automatically organizing drawing elements to maximize printing efficiency for all interior trades. Among the standout capabilities:
- Multi-trade simultaneous printing, reducing redundant workflows.
- Edge and shadow printing, which allows crews to navigate around obstacles.
- Curve printing, enhancing precision for complex designs.
- Compact robotic hardware that navigates tight spaces while maintaining 1/16-inch accuracy.
For construction teams, these improvements mean faster execution, reduced rework, and a higher level of design integrity preserved in the field.
Industry Collaboration
The release has drawn praise from Autodesk, whose software is foundational in global construction design workflows.
“As construction projects continue to experience skilled labor shortages, finding ways to improve field work productivity can have a significant impact,” said James Cook, director of industry & technology partnerships at Autodesk. “The integration between AutoCAD and Dusty Robotics creates an elegant workflow that connects design to construction and automates a previously tedious and error-prone process.”
Trusted by Top Contractors
Dusty Robotics has already printed over 225 million square feet of layout across thousands of projects nationwide. Its technology is deployed by leading general contractors including DPR, Mortenson, McCarthy, and Skanska, as well as specialty contractors in framing, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing trades.
With the AutoCAD plugin now available, Dusty strengthens its position as a leader in construction field automation, offering contractors a robust end-to-end solution that combines software, robotics, and cloud collaboration.
The Dusty for AutoCAD plugin is now live on the Autodesk App Store, fully integrated into the FieldPrint Platform.
