The Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced on Tuesday that Gov. Tony Evers approved a multi-year $22.3 million resurfacing project along Interstate 94 in Waukesha County.

Payne + Dolan was awarded the contract to resurface and improve the interstate between Wisconsin Highways 83 and 16. The contractor will start work on Wednesday and is expected to wrap up in mid-2025.

Improvements include resurfacing the interstate, bridge deck sealing and preservation on four bridges over I-94, resurfacing the park and rides at Meadowbrook and Nagawaukee, resurfacing WIS 318 from Rolling Ridge Drive to I-94 and signal improvements at several county road intersections.

Crews will also perform base patching, culvert repair and retaining wall replacement during the project.
Work on I-94 will happen at overnight and non-peak hours, WisDOT officials said. Speed limits will be reduced to 55 mph during overnight work and there will be overnight closures on full freeways, local roads, single lanes and ramps.

Traffic will be affected by partial 30-day closures of the Meadowbrook and Nagawaukee park and rides, officials said. There will be limited access to park and rides during construction.

Nagawaukee lot construction will occur the summer of 2024, while Meadowbrook lot construction will take place in late fall of 2024.
