WASHINGTON, D.C. — Georgia’s military bases and veterans are set to see their largest investment in over a decade after the U.S. Senate passed Senator Jon Ossoff’s bipartisan military construction funding bill, marking the state’s biggest boost in military construction spending since 2010.
The landmark legislation, which now heads to the U.S. House for final approval, would deliver more than $550 million for nearly a dozen critical projects at Georgia’s Army, Navy, and Air Force installations — strengthening national security infrastructure while improving quality of life for military families.
“From my leadership position on the Military Construction Subcommittee, I ensured this bill delivers the most military construction funding for Georgia in 15 years,” said Senator Ossoff, who became the top Democrat on the Senate Military Construction and VA Appropriations Subcommittee just last year.
“Despite the partisanship in Washington, I was able to pass this bill through the Senate to upgrade military and veterans’ facilities nationwide with strong bipartisan support. I call on the U.S. House to pass this bill without delay and get it to the President’s desk.”
Biggest Boost Since 2010
The $556 million package covers strategic improvements across key installations:
- Fort Benning: $127.4 million for a new Dexter Elementary School
- Fort Gillem: $166 million for an upgraded Evidence Storage Building
- Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base: $119 million to expand the Trident Refit Facility for Columbia-class submarines
- Fort Stewart: $8 million to design an aircraft maintenance hangar and $45 million to complete new Army barracks
- Moody Air Force Base: Over $21 million for security and simulator facilities
- Robins Air Force Base: $28 million for a new control tower
- Savannah/Hilton Head IAP: Nearly $39 million for a dining hall, training, and corrosion control
- Dobbins Air Reserve Base: $3 million for main gate design
The bill also adds a $30 million increase over the President’s request to step up oversight of privatized military housing, dedicating $10 million each to the Army, Navy, and Air Force to tackle maintenance claims and safety inspections.
More Support for Veterans
In addition to bricks and mortar, the legislation secures significant funding for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, ensuring that Georgia’s veterans — more than 680,000 statewide — can access the health care, housing assistance, and benefits they’ve earned.
A Bipartisan Win
This year’s passage reflects rare bipartisan agreement in Congress to modernize aging military infrastructure, respond to housing challenges for military families, and strengthen the VA system amid a rising veteran population.
As a member of the Appropriations Committee, Ossoff has leveraged his subcommittee leadership to champion new investments in defense readiness, local economies, and the everyday quality of life for service members and their families.
The final version must still clear the House before landing on the President’s desk for signature.
“I call on the U.S. House to pass this bill without delay and get it to the President’s desk,” Ossoff urged.
If enacted, Georgia’s military communities will see new schools, upgraded hangars, modernized training spaces, and enhanced living conditions — the largest single slate of military construction upgrades for the state in 15 years.
