Seven PCL Construction Projects Honored on ENR's 2024 Regional Best Projects Lists
DENVER, Colo. – PCL Construction Enterprises, Inc. proudly announces that seven of its projects have been recognized in the 2024 Engineering News-Record (ENR) Regional Best Projects lists. These accolades span various regions, including ENR Texas & Louisiana, ENR Midwest, ENR California, and ENR Mountain States.
“This recognition reflects our teams’ dedication to safety, innovation and quality, and also underscores the successful diversification of our portfolio across key industries, including aviation, industrial and hospitality,” remarked Deron Brown, president and chief operating officer for PCL’s U.S. Operations. “These awards are a testament to our ongoing commitment to delivering excellence and making a positive impact in the communities we serve.”
An independent jury composed of industry leaders in design and construction evaluated the projects based on criteria such as safety, teamwork, innovation, quality, and their contributions to the community or industry. The following are the highlighted projects and their respective categories:
ENR Texas & Louisiana
- Baytown Supermodule Furnace: Designed by Technip Energies for an ethylene facility, this project involved constructing the furnace as modules to be pre-assembled offsite. This innovative approach reduces costs and schedules while minimizing high-risk work hours. It received the Award for Best Project in the Energy/Industrial category and is a Project of the Year Finalist.
ENR Midwest
- Minnesota Zoo Treetop Trail: This project repurposed an old monorail track into a 1.25-mile elevated walking path, making it the world's longest elevated pedestrian loop. Opened in July 2023, it enhances the zoo’s mission and global reputation as a nature destination, earning the Award for Best Project in the Specialty Contractor category and a Project of the Year Finalist.
ENR California
- Southeastern Live Well Center: Located in Southeastern San Diego, this 65,000-square-foot facility serves as a central hub for health and social services. It received accolades in both the Excellence in Sustainability category and the Award for Best Project in the Government/Public Building category.
ENR Mountain States
- Airfield Deicing Project at Denver International Airport: This project replaced glycol distillation equipment to control runoff of deicing fluids, allowing for efficient recovery of usable fluid from rainwater. It received the Award for Best Project in the Energy/Industrial category.
- West Kentucky Avenue and South Irving Street Pocket Park: This project, in collaboration with the City of Denver’s Parks and Recreation Department, enhanced an intersection and created a pocket park with new sidewalks, bike lanes, and recreational features. It won the Award for Best Project in the Landscape/Urban Development category.
- Meow Wolf Denver Lounge Tenant Improvement: This transformation of second-floor space into an immersive bar and lounge featured thematic updates and a distinct Meow Wolf design, earning an Award of Merit in the Interior/Tenant Improvement category.
Projects recognized with the Award for Best Project will compete for ENR's Best of the Best 2024 list, to be announced next year.
PCL Construction's commitment to safety, teamwork, innovation, and quality remains fundamental to every project, whether building community centers, premier destinations, or unique lounge spaces.
