Leadership restructuring at major contractors can influence how regional operations, client relationships and growth priorities are coordinated across a national business. Balfour Beatty has appointed Scott Skidelsky to a newly established U.S. president for strategy and growth role, expanding his responsibilities beyond the Southeast Buildings division he has led since 2017.
Skidelsky will report to Eric Stenman, CEO of Balfour Beatty's U.S. Buildings & Infrastructure business. His responsibilities include guiding strategic development, strengthening operational performance and coordinating capabilities across the organisation to support customers in priority markets.
The role is intended to bring greater focus to business development and operational improvement across the company's U.S. operations. The strategy includes drawing on expertise from different parts of the wider organisation to strengthen delivery capabilities and support profitable growth.
Skidelsky joined Balfour Beatty in 2012. Under his leadership of Southeast Buildings, the division expanded to become one of the company's largest operations, supported by client relationships and operational performance.
John Harris will succeed Skidelsky as divisional president of U.S. Buildings, Southeast. Harris joined Balfour Beatty as an intern and has spent more than 25 years with the organisation, most recently serving as executive vice president of the Southeast Buildings division.
His experience includes regional operations, client relationships and market development. The transition places a longtime company executive in charge of the Georgia and Florida business while Skidelsky takes on a broader strategic role.
The appointments establish a leadership transition between regional operational oversight and companywide strategy, with both executives bringing extensive experience within Balfour Beatty.
Balfour Beatty's U.S. Buildings & Infrastructure business provides general contracting, construction management and design-build services for public- and private-sector clients. Its operations include heavy civil, rail and vertical construction projects in selected U.S. markets.
The business is headquartered in Dallas and employs more than 3,800 people. The leadership changes are intended to strengthen strategic coordination and operational performance across its U.S. activities.
For construction owners and industry partners, the appointments highlight how large contractors organise leadership to connect regional delivery expertise with broader business priorities. Skidelsky's new role will focus on strategic development, while Harris assumes responsibility for the Southeast Buildings operation.
