Graham Earns Two VRCA Silver Awards for Work Within Active Operating Facilities

Highlights

  • Graham received two Silver Awards at the Vancouver Regional Construction Association's 2026 Awards of Excellence.
  • The Vancouver Transit Centre (VTC) Skybridge Rehabilitation won in the General Contractor, Tenant Improvement, Up to $10 Million category.
  • The OMD Tank Farm Project, General Contractor Services, expanded storage capacity while BC Hydro's oil processing operations continued.
  • Both projects were delivered in active operating environments in British Columbia.
  • Gold Award winners will be announced October 16, 2026, at the VRCA Awards of Excellence Gala.

Two British Columbia projects that required construction to proceed beside live transit and utility operations have been recognized by the province's construction community. Graham received Silver Awards for both at the Vancouver Regional Construction Association (VRCA) 2026 Awards of Excellence, which recognize achievement in British Columbia construction.

Skybridge Work Above Active Bus Operations

The Vancouver Transit Centre (VTC) Skybridge Rehabilitation is located at the South Vancouver Transit Centre. The skybridge links the employee parking lot with the main building and serves more than 1,400 employees of TransLink and Coast Mountain Bus Company.

Graham's scope included:

  • Removing the existing walkway
  • Refinishing the existing hollow structural section (HSS) steel
  • Installing a new suspended concrete slab

The work took place above bus movements and high-voltage trolley wires. The project team installed a fully enclosed protective work platform beneath the skybridge. It was engineered to carry the new concrete construction and to separate the work area from the electrical infrastructure below. Construction proceeded without shutdowns or interruptions to transit centre operations, and buses continued to move through the facility.

Tank Farm Expansion During Continuous Operations

The OMD Tank Farm Project involved increasing the farm's storage capacity while BC Hydro's oil processing operations stayed in service. Working inside an operating site required detailed planning, close coordination and careful sequencing. Graham adapted construction activities to site and operational requirements throughout the project.

Contractor Takeaways From Both Projects

The two awards recognize general contractor work completed within functioning facilities, one in public transit and one in utility operations. In both cases, owners did not have to pause operations while construction took place.

The Gold Award winners will be named at the VRCA gala on October 16, 2026.
