Christina Strawbridge, a longtime staff member of the Mechanical Contractors Council of Central California, has received recognition for her contributions to the Benicia community.

Strawbridge was named one of Congressman John Garamendi's 2026 Women of the Year during an Oct. 23 ceremony in Benicia, California. The annual recognition programme honoured 52 women from the 8th Congressional District, including six from Benicia.

Civic and Business Contributions in Benicia

Strawbridge has lived in the Benicia area for more than four decades and has held several public and community leadership positions.

She served two terms on the Benicia City Council and was vice mayor from 2018 to 2020. She currently serves as president of Benicia Main Street, having previously worked with the organisation as a board member and event coordinator.

Her contributions to downtown Benicia include helping establish the Benicia Certified Farmers Market in 1993 and organising the city's 2000 Millennium Celebration. She also developed community events that continue to attract residents and visitors.

Her preservation work has included supporting rehabilitation efforts at the Southern Pacific Railroad Depot near First Street. She was directly involved in stabilising the historic structure in 2002.

Strawbridge has also participated in several civic and nonprofit organisations, including Soroptimist, the Benicia Economic Development Board, the American Cancer Society's Benicia Relay For Life, the Benicia Theatre Group and the Benicia State Parks Association.

In addition, she advocated for keeping Benicia's two state parks open when closure was being considered.

Small Business Advocacy and Industry Association Involvement

Alongside her civic activities, Strawbridge owned a women's boutique on First Street for 17 years and supported initiatives aimed at strengthening small businesses and downtown commercial activity.

Her recognition also highlights the contributions of professionals associated with mechanical contracting organisations who support their communities through leadership and volunteer service.
