Engineering capacity is a key consideration for precast concrete manufacturers delivering projects that require coordinated structural design, detailing and production. Metromont acquired PTAC Engineering LLC on Oct. 5, bringing the engineering specialist’s operations in Florida and Alabama into its business.
The acquired offices are located in Pensacola and Tampa, Florida, and Daphne and Monroeville, Alabama. PTAC Engineering previously operated within PTAC Companies, a network of businesses spanning engineering and other sectors.
The transaction builds on a working relationship that has lasted more than 25 years. The two organizations have collaborated on hundreds of precast concrete projects, including the Cascades mixed-use development in Tallahassee, the Seminole County Justice Center, Clearwater Fire Station 45 and USC Student Housing Parking Deck.
Established in 1991, PTAC Engineering specializes in designing and detailing precast and prestressed concrete structures. Its portfolio includes parking facilities, specialty precast structures, transportation infrastructure and commercial and industrial buildings.
Metromont manufactures structural and architectural precast concrete systems for markets including data centers, multifamily and student housing, hospitality, education, industrial facilities, commercial buildings and sports and entertainment venues.
Founded in 1925, Metromont operates seven manufacturing facilities across South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Virginia and Texas. The company is headquartered in Greenville, South Carolina, and became part of Markel Group in 2021.
The acquisition brings an established engineering operation into a precast manufacturer with a multistate production footprint. Combining design and detailing expertise with manufacturing capabilities can support coordination between engineering requirements and precast component production.
For project owners, general contractors and developers, engineering coordination is an important consideration when selecting precast systems for parking structures, industrial buildings and other projects requiring specialized structural components. Metromont’s acquisition expands its engineering resources across several southeastern markets, although financial terms and plans for further integration were not disclosed.
