The sheet metal construction industry’s workforce pipeline could benefit from scholarship support for students pursuing undergraduate degrees. The Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association (SMACNA) has opened applications for its College of Fellows scholarship program for the 2027-28 academic year, with eligibility extending to students entering college and those already enrolled in undergraduate programmes.
Applicants must attend an accredited four-year college or university as full-time students. Students may pursue any field of study, although careers connected to the sheet metal industry are encouraged.
Eligibility is limited to SMACNA’s extended network. Qualifying applicants include SMACNA contractors, their employees, SMACNA Fellows, employees of local SMACNA chapters and national staff, National Associate Members, and family members of people within these groups.
Applications and eligibility details are available through SMACNA’s scholarship webpage. Completed applications must be postmarked or emailed no later than Feb. 28, 2027.
A Scholarship Committee appointed by the College of Fellows will review applications and select recipients. Evaluation criteria include academic achievement, educational objectives, participation in school and community activities, leadership potential and character.
Applicants do not need to demonstrate financial need to qualify. SMACNA plans to notify scholarship recipients by July 1, 2027.
Questions about the programme can be directed to Jason Watson at jwatson@smacna.org.
The programme provides an opportunity for eligible students to receive educational support while pursuing degrees that may lead to careers in construction and related fields. For sheet metal contractors and industry members, scholarship initiatives can help maintain connections between the industry and the next generation of professionals, including those pursuing technical, business and other relevant career paths.
