Sustainable building activity is contributing to growth across major construction markets, particularly data centers and commercial facilities. Turner Construction Company reported $13.5 billion in green construction revenue after receiving the top U.S. green builder ranking for the 19th consecutive year from Engineering News-Record.
The reported revenue represented a 73% increase over the previous year. The ranking reflects revenue from projects that meet recognized green building standards, highlighting the scale of Turner’s work in sustainable construction.
Turner incorporates sustainability considerations into project planning and construction in coordination with clients, designers and trade partners. Its efforts include energy-efficient building design, resilient construction, embodied carbon reduction and the use of lower-carbon and circular materials.
Additional measures focus on jobsite energy consumption, construction waste and water management. The company also tracks sustainability performance and develops employee expertise to support implementation across its project portfolio.
One example is Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, which achieved LEED Platinum certification. The arena is also pursuing carbon-neutral operations, according to Turner’s announcement.
Turner’s revenue growth points to the significant role of sustainability requirements in large commercial and technology-related construction projects. For owners, green building standards can influence design decisions, material selection, energy performance and construction practices.
Contractors and trade partners may need to coordinate sustainability targets earlier in project planning, track material and resource use, and document compliance with applicable certification requirements. Turner’s reported results illustrate the scale at which these practices are being incorporated into major construction programs.
