The proclamation highlights the vital role construction professionals play in Alaska’s economy and underscores the growing impact of women across the industry.

“Women in Construction Week”

The governor’s declaration acknowledges that women from all socioeconomic backgrounds have shaped the nation and represent a critical portion of today’s workforce across every professional field.

The construction industry, one of the largest sectors in the United States, employs more than eight million individuals nationwide and remains central to infrastructure growth and economic stability. In Alaska, construction continues to serve as a cornerstone of development in both urban and rural communities.

Recognizing NAWIC’s 43-Year Commitment

For more than 43 years, the Alaska Chapter of NAWIC has supported the recruitment, advancement and leadership of women in construction. The organization, formally known as the National Association of Women in Construction, has played a key role in mentorship, professional development and advocacy within the skilled trades and construction management sectors.

The proclamation emphasizes the Alaska Chapter’s ongoing leadership:

“Level Up. Build Strong. Communities, Careers and Futures”

This year’s theme focuses on strengthening communities, advancing career pathways and promoting long-term industry growth through inclusion and workforce engagement.

State officials noted that the construction community drives local progress not only through large-scale infrastructure projects but also through renovation, beautification and the promotion of skilled trade careers for the next generation.

The proclamation further recognizes that women in construction are helping enhance Alaska’s infrastructure while improving the overall quality and competitiveness of the state’s workforce.

From project management and engineering to skilled trades and specialty contracting, women continue to expand their presence across traditionally male-dominated roles. Their contributions support economic diversification, community resilience and sustainable growth.

By formally designating Women in Construction Week, the governor encouraged all Alaskans to recognize and celebrate women who have dedicated their careers to this critical industry.

The proclamation, dated March 1, 2026, reinforces the state’s broader commitment to workforce development and inclusive economic opportunity across Alaska’s construction sector.
