MONTGOMERY, AL — Alfa Insurance and the Alabama Farmers Federation officially kicked off the renovation of their new corporate headquarters located in the former Capitol Commerce Center building off Interstate 85 in Montgomery. The move underscores the company’s commitment to its hometown and positions it for the next phase of growth.

Alfa and Farmers Federation President and CEO Jimmy Parnell joined local officials, construction partners, and real-estate stakeholders to mark the beginning of the transformation.
“We are excited to begin renovations at our new building,” Parnell said. “We are proud of our Alabama roots. Alfa was created by farmers and has been headquartered in Montgomery since the beginning. It’s only fitting our employees will begin moving into this building as Alfa celebrates its 80th anniversary late next year.”
The building renovation signals an important milestone for both the company and the region. Although the structure was designed about 20 years ago by architecture firm Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC), this refresh will deliver modern workspaces, enhanced collaboration zones, and upgraded amenities to meet the evolving needs of Alfa’s growing workforce.
“It’s a unique privilege to design the new Alfa headquarters, especially with this being a building we first designed 20 years ago,” said GMC Architecture Department Leader Mark Coyle. “We’re thrilled to give this space new life and craft a workplace for their employees that celebrates Alfa’s legacy while looking ahead to the future.”
Construction lead Brasfield & Gorrie also emphasized the project’s significance.
“This project represents the next chapter in a long-standing partnership among Alfa Insurance, GMC and Brasfield & Gorrie,” said Robby Hayes, Regional Vice President and Division Manager. “Together, we’re bringing new life to a familiar place — transforming a building we helped create into a modern headquarters designed for collaboration, efficiency and longevity. We’re proud to help advance Alfa’s vision and continue building on a shared legacy of excellence in Montgomery.”

The decision to stay in Montgomery and expand corporate operations is a major win for the region, according to the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce. Chamber President & CEO Anna Buckalew said:
“Corporate headquarters matter. They bring high-wage jobs, civic leadership and regional momentum,” she said. “Alfa’s decision to reinvest and relocate its corporate headquarters in Montgomery speaks volumes about its commitment to the Capital Region. We’re proud to partner with one of Alabama’s most respected companies and to support its continued growth and future success.”
Local leadership and community partners were also acknowledged.
“Our goal from Day 1 was to displace the fewest employees possible, while providing the Alfa family a more modern workplace that better fits our needs,” Parnell added. “We appreciate the County Commission, City Council and Chamber of Commerce for recognizing the value Alfa brings to the River Region by creating jobs and developing civic leaders who give back to the community.”
Moving forward, the renovation will proceed in phases to allow continuous operations and minimize disruptions. Employees will gradually relocate into the upgraded headquarters as the project progresses. The building’s refreshed design will also reflect Alfa’s commitment to its roots, its employees, and the broader community’s future.
With the company’s 80th anniversary approaching next year, this shift signals a new era for Alfa Insurance — one deeply connected to Montgomery, equipped for modern challenges, and geared toward growth.
