C.W. Driver Launches Major Modernization at Long Beach Polytechnic High School

Long Beach, CA – C.W. Driver Companies has officially broken ground on an ambitious $175 million modernization at Long Beach Polytechnic High School, a project dedicated to fostering success across several subject areas while creating more space to cater to all student needs. .
The comprehensive three-phase transformation will breathe new life into the historic campus while preparing students for 21st-century careers. A highlight of the modernization will bring a striking new 65,000-square-foot Career and Technical Education (CTE) building that will house cutting-edge facilities including a medical simulation lab, engineering and computer science laboratories, robotics and automotive technology spaces, dedicated areas for the school's JROTC program and more.
"This modernization project is more than just the addition of new buildings—it's an investment in the future of every student at Polytechnic High School," said Jamie Macartney, project executive at C.W. Driver. The company, which has served California's construction needs since 1919, brings over a century of expertise to this transformative undertaking.
The project's thoughtful phased approach ensures minimal disruption to students' education. Phase one focuses on critical infrastructure improvements alongside the construction of 52 portable classrooms in an interim housing complex, complete with restroom facilities and a lunch shelter. Subsequent phases will modernize eight existing campus buildings with updated HVAC systems, technology infrastructure, accessibility improvements, and enhanced safety features.
This marks C.W. Driver's fourth collaboration with Long Beach Unified School District, following successful projects at Cabrillo High School and Jordan High School. The modernization is scheduled for completion in December 2027, positioning Long Beach Polytechnic High School as a model for modern educational excellence.
