Elizabeth Non-Profit Offers Free 12-Week Construction Training for Veterans

The BLOC Foundation, a non-profit based in Elizabeth, NJ, has introduced a 12-week Comprehensive Construction Training Program aimed at providing veterans, women, and minorities with essential skills, certifications, and career opportunities in New Jersey’s construction industry.

Backed by the NJ Build (Builders Utilization Initiative for Labor Diversity) Grant, this program is designed to open doors for individuals often overlooked in traditional workforce development channels. The foundation’s goal is to offer not just job training, but pathways to meaningful careers and financial stability.

“We’re thrilled to launch a program that not only teaches the trade but truly changes lives,” said Natasha Davis, Founder of the BLOC Foundation. “This is about equity, dignity, and building a future where veterans have a pathway to succeed. We’re not just creating workers; we’re cultivating leaders, providers, and community builders. By investing in underrepresented communities, we’re laying the foundation for a stronger, more diverse workforce in New Jersey.”

The program offers a blend of classroom instruction and hands-on training, led by industry professionals, ensuring that participants acquire relevant skills for the construction field. Graduates will receive certifications such as the Core Construction from NCCER and OSHA 30, which are key credentials in the industry.

“I’ve been in construction for over 30 years, but this class gave me knowledge I didn’t have before,” shared Robert Moore, a former participant. “It taught me how to communicate effectively on the job, how to read blueprints, and how to use tools safely and confidently. I walked away with new skills, a fresh perspective, and deep gratitude.”

In addition to training, the program offers support, including a $1,000 grant stipend for graduates, childcare assistance, and career services such as resume building, interview coaching, and job placement assistance.

Interested candidates must complete an application, undergo an interview, and be selected based on their commitment and readiness to pursue a construction career. The program admits participants on a rolling basis.
