Great Falls Police Lobby Construction to Improve Safety and Efficiency

GREAT FALLS, Montana – On March 17, the Great Falls Police Department (GFPD) officially kicked off a construction project aimed at improving the safety and efficiency of its lobby area. Despite the upgrades, the public will still have access to necessary services during the construction period.
The construction, which is expected to take approximately four weeks, will minimally impact front counter services. Residents and visitors can continue to enter through the north side lobby doors and make use of a temporary window for in-person interactions. Additionally, the lobby will remain open for dropping off video evidence and accessing the direct line to the Communications Center.

This project is funded partly through the State Local Infrastructure Partnership (SLIPA) grant, established by the Montana State Legislature via House Bill 355 in 2023. The Great Falls City Commission approved the project and grant application in March 2024, and SLIPA funds were allocated on April 19, 2024.
Details of the Construction Contract
On December 3, 2024, the City Commissioners awarded a contract valued at $67,042.50 to Guy Tabacco Construction for the lobby work. The GFPD contributed a match of $21,250 from its Building Maintenance Fund, ensuring the completion of this necessary upgrade.
The GFPD expressed excitement about the improvements, recognizing how the renovations would make it easier to serve the public more effectively. They also thanked the community for their understanding and patience as construction proceeds.
Continued Access and Impact
GFPD officials assured that even with the construction underway, the lobby’s functionality will remain intact for public use. “This project is going to improve the safety and service at the police department, but we are committed to making sure it doesn’t disrupt what is essential for the public,” said a GFPD spokesperson.
The construction project comes as part of the department’s ongoing efforts to improve the police station’s facilities, ensuring they are both modern and secure while continuing to provide uninterrupted service to Great Falls residents.
