The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) has selected AECOM Technical Services, Inc. to provide construction management services for the final phase of the Calexico West Land Port of Entry’s modernization and expansion. The $6,031,404.02 contract, awarded to the Los Angeles-based firm, will oversee critical components of the project, including the installation of a temporary pedestrian inspection facility, demolition of the existing pedestrian building, and the construction of new permanent structures.

This key infrastructure project, funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act, aims to increase capacity and enhance security at the Calexico West Land Port of Entry, one of the busiest crossings between the U.S. and Mexico. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law allocated $3.4 billion to modernize land ports of entry nationwide, improving commerce, trade, security, job creation, and sustainability.

“Awarding this construction management services contract brings the Calexico West LPOE project closer to fruition and underscores GSA’s commitment to building state-of-the-art, sustainable infrastructure that meets the demands of today’s trade and travel,” said Sukhee Kang, GSA Pacific Rim Regional Administrator. “By leveraging funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act, we are not only modernizing one of the busiest ports of entry on the southern border but also creating jobs, enhancing security, and contributing to a more resilient and sustainable future.”

Construction is expected to begin in summer 2025, with the project slated for completion in winter 2028.

The Inflation Reduction Act also includes $3.4 billion for GSA to promote low-embodied carbon construction materials and to make federal buildings more sustainable and cost-efficient. Through these investments, GSA expects to reduce operational carbon emissions by over 2 million metric tons, the equivalent of removing 500,000 gasoline-powered cars from the road for a year.
