LANSING, Iowa – The Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT) has shared new updates on the progress of the Mississippi River Bridge replacement in Lansing, giving a closer look at key construction milestones as the project moves forward.
Newly released photos showcase 15 beams that will serve as a crucial support structure for the concrete deck of the new bridge, specifically on the Wisconsin side of the river. The images also provide a side-by-side comparison of the old and new bridge, highlighting significant improvements in size and functionality.
Kraemer North America, the contractor managing the project, is making steady progress and has scheduled the next major phase of construction. According to Iowa DOT, decking on one side of the bridge is expected to begin in mid-April, with a deck pour planned shortly after.
The new Mississippi River Bridge is designed to be wider and more accommodating than its predecessor. Key upgrades include:
21 feet wide with 10-foot driving lanes and no shoulders
40 feet wide with 12-foot driving lanes and 8-foot shoulders
These enhancements will provide safer and more efficient travel across the river, accommodating both passenger and commercial vehicles with improved accessibility.A Long-Awaited Infrastructure UpgradeThe existing bridge, which has been in use for decades, is considered outdated and lacks key safety features such as shoulders for emergency stops. The new structure aims to enhance traffic flow, improve safety, and ensure long-term durability for residents and travelers moving between Iowa and Wisconsin. While construction continues, Iowa DOT remains committed to providing regular updates and keeping the community informed about upcoming project phases. For more information and future updates, visit the Iowa DOT website or follow their social media channels.
