Lane Construction Corporation, the U.S. subsidiary of Webuild Group, has been awarded a $582 million contract to design and build a critical segment of Florida’s highway network under the “Moving I-4 Forward – Project 2” initiative.

The project, commissioned by the Florida Department of Transportation, will modernize a key portion of Interstate 4, one of Central Florida’s most heavily traveled corridors.
The contract includes upgrading approximately 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) of I-4 at the interchange with State Road 429, a major junction that frequently experiences congestion due to high traffic volumes from tourism and regional growth.
Lane will reconfigure the interchange to improve mobility and safety by adding four general-use lanes and two express lanes in each direction. The redesign will also introduce direct connections between I-4 and State Road 429, reducing complex traffic weaving and streamlining vehicle transitions.
A key component of the project involves transforming Old Lake Wilson Road into a more accessible, community-focused corridor. The redesign will include protected sidewalks and dedicated bike lanes, enhancing safety and usability for pedestrians and cyclists.
Additionally, the I-4 median will be prepared to support a potential future rail corridor, reflecting long-term planning for multimodal transportation in the region.
The project is part of the “Moving Florida Forward Infrastructure Initiative,” a statewide effort led by FDOT to improve transportation capacity and address population growth across Florida.
The broader initiative focuses on adding express lanes along I-4 between Polk and Orange counties, aiming to reduce congestion, improve travel times and strengthen connectivity in one of the state’s busiest regions.
Officials noted that the project will be delivered on an accelerated schedule, allowing the upgraded infrastructure to open earlier than initially planned. The improvements are expected to enhance not only daily commuting but also emergency evacuation capabilities.
Lane’s long-standing presence in Florida positions it well for the project. The company currently manages 11 active projects across the state and maintains multiple construction sites along the I-4 corridor.
Through its parent company Webuild, Lane brings global expertise in large-scale infrastructure development, with more than 82,700 kilometers of roads and highways completed worldwide.
The new contract further reinforces Webuild’s growing role in U.S. infrastructure, complementing ongoing projects such as upgrades along Interstate 85 in North Carolina and modernization work at Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia.
In Florida, the group is also involved in several high-profile developments, including improvements at the I-4/Sand Lake Road and I-4/State Road 535 interchanges, as well as the Westshore Interchange project in the Tampa Bay area.
