The Beatrice Area Solid Waste Agency Board has approved the selection of Genesis Contracting Group from Lincoln to construct the entrance and building for the new Beatrice landfill facility, located southwest of the city. The construction project is set to begin in 2025, with the bid amounting to $4,052,000.

"This is for the site entrance...this would be the building, the scale house...customer drop-off....those kind of things," said a representative from the Board.

Beatrice City Administrator Tobias Tempelmeyer reported that three companies submitted bids for the building and entrance project. "Bids ranged from $4,052,000...to $4,799,000...so three bids within about $700,000 of each other."

Although the earthwork bid for the landfill came in higher than anticipated, Tempelmeyer highlighted that the entrance and building bid came in significantly below the engineering estimate. "The engineer's estimate was $6,141,000...so it came in significantly less than the engineer's estimate," he noted.

In addition, the Board approved a contract with Burns McDonnell for sampling, monitoring, and testing services in the project area. The services are expected to cost up to $84,800 for this year. Burns McDonnell has previously provided extensive engineering support for Beatrice’s solid waste management projects.

Earlier, the Board had approved a negotiated $6.2 million bid for the earthwork at the new landfill site, located south of Lilac Road.
