Meridian Breaks Ground on $21M Community Center and Park Expansion Project

Meridian, Idaho, has officially broken ground on a $21 million community center and park expansion project, marking a significant investment in public infrastructure, recreation and community services.

City officials, alongside Meridian Parks and Recreation and the Meridian Fire Department, hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on Feb. 19, 2026, at the future site just west of the Settlers Park ball field complex off North Venable Avenue. The project will deliver a new 26,000-square-foot community center while expanding the surrounding park amenities.

New Facility Designed to Serve Growing Community Needs

The new community center will replace the city’s aging 4,000-square-foot facility built in the early 1960s, which officials say no longer meets the needs of Meridian’s growing population. Designed by Cushing Terrell and managed by Kreizenbeck Construction, the modern facility will function as a central hub for educational, recreational and community programs.

The building will include a gymnasium with a stage, fitness rooms, multipurpose classrooms and flexible meeting spaces designed to support year-round programming. Additional features such as roll-up doors will connect indoor spaces to an outdoor patio, enhancing accessibility and usability.

Funding for the project is primarily sourced from impact fees collected through building permits rather than taxpayer dollars, reflecting the city’s growth-driven financing strategy.

“We’re thrilled to break ground on the new community center and the expansion of Settlers Park,” said Meridian Parks and Recreation Director Steve Siddoway. “The community helped shape this project every step of the way, and we can't wait to see Meridian families and people of all ages enjoying the space for years to come — whether that's staying active, trying something new, or simply connecting with friends and neighbors.”

Park Expansion and Infrastructure Improvements Underway

In addition to the new facility, the project includes a significant expansion of Settlers Park. Planned improvements feature a fenced dog park, expanded green spaces, new pathways and a playground to accommodate increasing recreational demand.

The city is also partnering with Meridian Youth Baseball/Softball to construct 347 additional parking spaces, addressing congestion during sporting events and community activities.

As part of the broader development effort, Meridian is pursuing a separate infrastructure partnership to install a traffic signal at the intersection of West Ustick Road and North Venable Avenue. The upgrade aims to improve both pedestrian safety and traffic flow near the growing recreational complex.

The community center will also house the Meridian Fire Outreach Center, providing space for fire safety education, CPR training and other public risk-reduction initiatives.

Construction is expected to peak with expanded workforce activity as the project progresses, with completion targeted for late 2027 or early 2028.

The development reflects a broader trend among growing municipalities investing in multi-use community infrastructure to support population growth, improve quality of life and centralize public services.
