Meta Breaks Ground on $800M Data Center Campus in Jeffersonville, Indiana

Meta has announced the construction of a new $800 million data center campus in Jeffersonville, Indiana, marking the company’s first major infrastructure project in the state. The campus, covering 619 acres within the River Ridge Commerce Center, will be built with a focus on renewable energy and environmental sustainability, aiming for LEED Gold certification.

“It is our pleasure to call Indiana and Jeffersonville home from now on,” said Brad Davis, Meta’s Data Center Neighborhood Economic Development Director. “We want to be an active partner here and support the community’s long-term livelihood. Jeffersonville stood out as one of the best places for our newest data center because not only does it have great access to infrastructure, a deep talent pool but also amazing community partners.”

Construction begins this month, with the facility expected to go online in 2026. Meta will use prefabricated modular assemblies, with Turner serving as the construction partner. The project will create over 1,200 construction jobs during development and result in up to 100 permanent roles once operational.

Renderings suggest Meta has departed from its traditional H-shaped data center blueprint, possibly reflecting a growing emphasis on AI-focused computing architecture.

Governor Eric Holcomb welcomed the investment, saying, “Today is a good day for our southeast region and the Hoosiers as another major investment arrives at River Ridge Commerce Center. It’s great to have Meta here in Indiana and we are looking forward to the company becoming a partner with us.”

To support the project, Meta secured a 35-year data center sales tax exemption from the Indiana Economic Development Corporation for its initial $800 million capital outlay. If additional investments are made, the exemption can be extended up to 50 years.

Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore added, “Sitting patiently for a mega company transpired into this 619-acre site being saved by River Ridge and with its investment and commitment towards it proves how effective such saving is. The economic activity surrounding this new data center will benefit every part of our economy.”

Jeffersonville’s proximity to Louisville and its strategic position along the Ohio River make it a natural hub for data and logistics infrastructure. The new facility aligns with Meta’s broader push to expand its AI and data storage capabilities while minimizing environmental impact.

This Jeffersonville data center marks the first large-scale campus Meta has announced since 2024, indicating a renewed push in infrastructure investment aligned with the company's AI and metaverse ambitions.

The use of modular construction also signals Meta’s shift toward speed, scalability, and energy efficiency, as it continues building a global network to support increasing data loads driven by AI, VR, and social media platforms.

With regional partnerships, incentives, and a projected $800 million in capital investment, Meta’s arrival is expected to stimulate the local economy, attract more tech-driven companies, and position Southern Indiana as a critical node in the nation's digital infrastructure network.
