CONCORD, N.C. — Oct. 9, 2025 — Construction has officially started on the Atrium Health Concord Freestanding Emergency Department (FSED), an 11,021-square-foot facility being built entirely using modular construction. The project is expected to be completed by early 2026.
The modular approach involves producing the building in large prefabricated sections, or modules, offsite, which are then transported, assembled, and finished on location. This method allows site preparation and module fabrication to occur simultaneously, significantly shortening project timelines compared to traditional construction methods.
“Modular construction allows us to deliver a high-quality, fully equipped emergency department much faster, while minimizing disruption to the surrounding community,” said a spokesperson for Atrium Health.
The new facility will include 10 patient beds and is designed to meet the growing urgent care and emergency needs of the Concord community. Modular construction also provides:
“The modular process provides an efficient and sustainable construction solution, and it’s ideal for healthcare projects where speed, safety, and quality are paramount,” the Atrium Health spokesperson added.
