Phase One Construction Underway at NAH’s Summit Center in Flagstaff

Northern Arizona Healthcare has broken ground on the first phase of its major Summit Center project in central Flagstaff, marking a significant step in expanding local outpatient care.

Work at the site at 1485 N. Turquoise Drive includes a full interior remodel plus a 6,000-square-foot addition. The initial phase is expected to last 18 months, with the first patient visits slated for mid-fall 2026.

Phase one improvements will deliver new and expanded Operating Rooms and Pain Procedure Rooms, dedicated prep and recovery areas, a new Sterile Processing Department, an upgraded surgery check-in and waiting area, and a new Wound Clinic featuring Hyperbaric Chamber Treatment capabilities. The project also includes an EntireCare Rehab & Sports Medicine Physical Therapy location, more exam space for physicians, and additional parking.

Despite the construction, the Summit Center will remain open for scheduled surgeries and services throughout the project timeline.

NAH leaders say this effort reimagines the outpatient environment initially envisioned for the Ambulatory Care Center at Fort Tuthill while addressing community feedback about keeping some services accessible in central Flagstaff. Sustainability remains a key priority for the updated facilities.

“We are pleased to announce the commencement of the phase one construction for NAH’s Summit Center project,” said NAH CEO Dave Cheney. “We believe it’s important to invest in the community and that includes investing in our facilities. This new project gives residents of Northern Arizona easily accessible new services. We are confident that these facilities will support the needs of our patients and the communities we serve.”

Following phase one, two more phases are planned between fall 2026 and spring 2028 to further expand services at the Summit Center. NAH leaders say the upgrades align with the healthcare system’s broader goal of modernizing its facilities while balancing sustainability, access, and quality of care.

Once fully complete, the Summit Center will bring expanded care options closer to where people live, saving patients time and helping keep more healthcare dollars in the region. The project also supports local construction jobs and demonstrates NAH’s commitment to meeting the growing healthcare needs of the Northern Arizona community.
