Oregon Tech is expanding its academic offerings with the launch of a Bachelor of Science in construction management starting in fall 2025. Designed in collaboration with the Beavers Charitable Trust, industry partners, donors, and community stakeholders, the new program aims to meet the rising demand for skilled construction professionals across Oregon and the western United States.
The degree is tailored to provide students with a blend of technical knowledge, leadership training, and project management expertise, preparing them for roles across the construction sector. Emphasis on applied learning will enable students to work directly with real-world tools, technologies, and industry partners throughout their time in the program.
To meet the needs of both infrastructure and building sectors, the program includes two specialized tracks:
• Heavy Construction (Horizontal)
Focusing on highways, bridges, utilities, and large-scale infrastructure projects.
• General Construction (Vertical)
Centered on commercial, residential, and institutional buildings, facilities, and complex developments.
Students will take a wide range of industry-relevant courses, including:
Oregon Tech has appointed Professor Jared Emard as interim program director. According to the university, his leadership and experience will help guide the rollout of the new degree.
“Emard brings a wealth of industry knowledge, academic expertise, and strong community connections that will ensure the program’s successful launch and growth,” the school said in a news release.
Dr. Neslihan Alp, dean of the College of Engineering, Technology, and Management, emphasized the collaborative effort behind the initiative and its broader economic importance.
“We are excited to bring this much-needed program to Oregon Tech,” said Dr. Alp. “The partnership and support of Beavers Trust, industry leaders, and our community have been invaluable in creating a program that will directly prepare students for rewarding careers in construction while helping meet the critical workforce demand in this field.”
Program leaders say graduates will be equipped to manage complex builds, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and support regional development initiatives. With construction job openings rising statewide, the university expects strong enrollment demand.
