Perkins&Will has expanded its healthcare practice in North Carolina with the addition of two seasoned healthcare design professionals, reinforcing the firm’s long-term commitment to medical planning and design excellence across the Southeast.

Jose Prado, AIA, NCARB, has joined Perkins&Will’s North Carolina studio to lead its healthcare practice. With a career focused exclusively on healthcare design, Prado brings a collaborative, solutions-driven leadership approach that emphasizes clarity, teamwork and the human experience within care environments.
Before joining Perkins&Will, Prado served at Gresham Smith, where he led complex healthcare projects for major clients, including University of Miami Health System, Baptist Health South Florida, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and Jackson Health System. His experience spans large-scale health systems, pediatric care facilities and academic medical environments, positioning him to guide multidisciplinary teams through increasingly complex healthcare challenges.
In his new role, Prado will oversee healthcare strategy and project delivery for the North Carolina studio, supporting clients as they navigate evolving clinical models, operational demands and patient-centered design priorities.
In addition, Brandon Walter, AIA, LEED AP, has been appointed Senior Medical Planner supporting the North Carolina studio. Walter has been with Perkins&Will since 2008 and brings more than two decades of healthcare planning experience to the role.

Throughout his career, Walter has contributed to the planning and design of more than 20 million square feet of healthcare environments worldwide, ranging from community-based clinics to large academic medical centers. He is recognized for his ability to translate clinical workflows and operational goals into functional, efficient and healing-focused design solutions.
In his expanded role, Walter will collaborate closely with healthcare clients and project teams to ensure planning strategies align with long-term institutional goals, regulatory requirements and patient experience objectives.
The leadership additions come as healthcare systems across North Carolina and the broader Southeast region continue to invest in modernization, expansion and flexible care models. By strengthening its healthcare leadership team, Perkins&Will aims to support clients facing growing demand, workforce pressures and rapidly changing delivery models.
The firm’s North Carolina studio continues to play a key role in Perkins&Will’s national healthcare practice, delivering integrated design solutions that balance operational performance, patient well-being and long-term adaptability.
