After Rebecca Pepper’s re-election and swearing-in by Judge Andrew Self, the Christian County School Board convened to discuss multiple construction and demolition updates.

During the meeting, Alliance Corporation Vice President Tim Geegan provided updates on the progress of the new high school project. Assistant Superintendent Kevin Crider requested board approval to solicit bids for the new high school athletic facilities.

“The baseball, softball, tennis, a four-lane practice track and then a soccer competition track inside of that and a soccer practice field outside,” Crider outlined. “The baseball and softball are going out to bid for the field turf, and we have added for soccer the field turf, inside the track.”

Crider noted that the estimated cost of the project is approximately $7.5 million, with most funding coming from a state grant. Geegan reassured the board that contingency funding is in good shape. If approved, bids would be accepted by the end of January 2025, with all work expected to be completed by this time next year.

The school board unanimously approved proceeding with the bidding process for the project.

In other matters, the board recognized the CCPS "ALL IN" Student and Employees of the Month:

  • Sarah Slaughter (Christian County Middle School) – Student of the Month
  • Anita Armstrong (Crofton Elementary) – Elementary Certified Employee of the Month
  • Aaliyah Jones (Hopkinsville Middle School) – Secondary Certified Employee of the Month
  • Kim Rains (Pembroke Elementary) – Classified Employee of the Month
  • Lacey Ramirez (Sinking Fork Elementary) – Administrator of the Month

The board also received construction updates from Tim Geegan on the new high school, approved three change orders totaling $187,077.78 for the high school construction project, and authorized a payment invoice for $7,330,736.11 to Alliance Corporation and individual contractors.

Additional approved actions included:

  • Approval of the 2023-2024 Audit Report, completed by Duguid, Gentry & Associates.
  • Rejection of all bids related to the demolition of the old Christian County Middle School, with plans to rebid the project with new specifications.
  • Approval of a $269,875 roof coating for Millbrooke Elementary by Swift Roofing, ensuring the roof will last for another 10 years.
  • Authorization to advertise for bids for a new bell system at Hopkinsville Middle School.
  • Payment approval of $24,527.04 to Hafer Architects for their work on the new high school.
  • An agreement with the Henry Ford Learning Institute.
  • Approval of the 2025 school board meeting and workshop calendar.

The next regular school board meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, in the board room of the central office.
