Construction is steadily advancing on the Bailey Student-Athlete Success Center at University of Connecticut Athletics, with the highly anticipated facility on track for completion in January 2027.

Located in Storrs, Connecticut, the project follows its groundbreaking in April 2025 and represents a major redevelopment of the existing field house. Spanning more than 77,000 square feet, the transformation is being driven by a historic philanthropic contribution from alumna Dr. Trisha M. Bailey—marking the largest gift ever made to UConn Athletics.
A centerpiece of the new facility will be the Nayden Center for Academic Excellence, a 12,000-square-foot hub designed to support student-athletes beyond competition. Backed by a $15 million commitment from longtime supporters Denis and Britta Nayden, the center will focus on academic success, personal development, and overall well-being.
The space is expected to deliver comprehensive programming and services tailored to student-athletes, reinforcing UConn’s emphasis on balancing athletics with education and life skills.
“Watching this building rise has been incredibly exciting for all of us,” said Director of Athletics David Benedict. “When we open our doors in January 2027, it will mark a new era for UConn student-athletes and a true reflection of the generosity and vision of our donors.”
Beyond academics, the Bailey Student-Athlete Success Center will serve as a central hub for multiple varsity programs, including field hockey, tennis, rowing, and men’s and women’s track and field.
The upgraded facility will include a wide range of modern amenities designed to enhance both performance and recovery. Planned features include:
The project also includes upgrades to existing infrastructure such as team rooms, locker rooms, and administrative offices. These improvements aim to create a more cohesive and efficient environment for athletes, coaches, and staff.

Additionally, new exterior restrooms will be constructed to accommodate spectators attending events at Sherman Field, improving the overall game-day experience.
The Bailey Student-Athlete Success Center reflects a broader trend in collegiate athletics, where institutions are investing heavily in facilities that support both athletic performance and student well-being.
By integrating academic resources, health services, and advanced training environments under one roof, UConn is positioning itself to better recruit, develop, and support student-athletes in an increasingly competitive landscape.
