The Washington City Council has awarded Lawlor Corporation the contract to build the city’s newest fire station, following a competitive bidding process. The council made the decision Monday after evaluating 10 bids, which ranged from $5.02 million to $5.64 million.
Lawlor’s $5.1 million bid was among the lower overall bids but was the highest among the four companies interviewed, according to previous Missourian reports. Despite this, fire officials strongly supported Lawlor, citing their successful track record in constructing public safety facilities.

Proven Experience in Fire Station Construction
Fire officials emphasized Lawlor’s experience in building similar facilities, including fire stations in Fenton, St. Charles, and for the New Haven-Berger Fire Protection District. They also highlighted Lawlor’s past work in Washington.
“We are familiar with Lawlor through Mercy Hospital,” said Fire Chief Tim Frankenberg. “They have been working there since the 1990s.”
Beyond hospitals and fire stations, Lawlor has completed multiple public projects in Washington, including work for the local school district and other city facilities.
A Local Connection
In addition to their established reputation, Lawlor’s superintendent and project manager for this fire station both live in Washington, providing an added layer of community investment in the project’s success.
New Fire Station Details
The 9,900-square-foot fire station will be constructed south of Phoenix Park, near the intersection of North Crest and Earth Crest Drive. It will include three apparatus bays designed to improve emergency response efficiency.
The station’s design was developed by FGM Architects, a firm known for its expertise in public safety infrastructure.
With Lawlor Corporation officially on board, construction is expected to move forward, further strengthening Washington’s emergency response capabilities.
