American Global has strengthened its construction risk leadership team with the appointment of Kristen Weber as Vice President and Head of Subcontractor Default Insurance (SDI). The Dallas-based executive brings more than two decades of expertise in SDI underwriting, construction risk management, program design, and strategic advisory for major contractors across North America.

The firm said Weber will help drive its expanding SDI practice at a time when subcontractor reliability, supply-chain pressures and cost volatility continue to heighten risk exposure for contractors. Her new role includes overseeing underwriting strategies, optimizing SDI service delivery, and supporting the firm’s growing client portfolio across the U.S., Canada, Latin America and Europe.
Weber succeeds Greg West, who recently transitioned to another leadership role within the company.
Deep Experience in SDI and Construction Risk
Before joining American Global, Weber spent four years as an SDI Underwriting Officer at Liberty Mutual, where she oversaw underwriting strategy, portfolio management and customized SDI solutions for “best-in-class general contractors.” Her broader background includes more than a decade as a construction risk manager following her early career in finance — experience that positions her uniquely to advise contractors navigating increasingly complex project environments.
Leadership Praise and Vision for Growth
Jennifer Westmoreland, President of American Global’s Georgia operations, welcomed Weber’s appointment, saying:
“I am thrilled to welcome Kristen as the new head of our Subcontractor Default Insurance practice. Her deep expertise and proven leadership in the construction risk space will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen and grow our SDI platform. I’m excited for the vision and energy she brings to the team, and I look forward to the impact she’ll make for our clients, colleagues, and partners.”
Weber noted that returning to SDI leadership aligns directly with her professional passion:
“I’m excited to join American Global and lead the Subcontractor Default Insurance practice. Underwriting subcontractors for Subguard® is where my passion for risk management first took shape, and it is a privilege to bring that experience and enthusiasm to American Global! I look forward to sharing my insights and vision with colleagues, clients, and partners as we begin this incredible journey together. Let’s go!”
Why This Matters for the Industry
Her arrival comes at a time when SDI adoption continues to climb, driven by contractor interest in alternatives to traditional bonding, the need for more proactive subcontractor qualification tools, and the increasing severity of default risks. Firms are placing greater emphasis on risk analytics, subcontractor screening, and dynamic SDI program structures — areas where Weber has significant experience.
Industry analysts point out that experienced SDI leadership has become critical as large general contractors manage sprawling subcontractor networks and increasingly complex megaproject portfolios.
