PHOENIX — Expo Contratista has announced the launch of the Latino Build Show, a new interactive feature debuting during its Sept. 11–12 event at the Phoenix Convention Center.
The Latino Build Show will spotlight live product installations led by Latino trade professionals while offering hands-on learning opportunities for contractors and do-it-yourself homeowners.
The initiative comes as the U.S. construction industry faces mounting workforce pressures, including rising retirement rates and ongoing recruitment challenges that threaten long-term growth.

Industry Faces Escalating Workforce Gap
Construction labor shortages have intensified in recent years, with retirement projections suggesting that up to 40% of the current workforce could exit the industry by 2030. At the same time, firms continue to struggle to fill hundreds of thousands of open skilled positions nationwide.
This imbalance has contributed to project delays, rising labor costs and capacity constraints for contractors seeking to expand operations. Industry leaders have increasingly emphasized workforce development, trade education and recruitment innovation as critical to stabilizing the sector.
“As the construction labor gap grows, we need fresh approaches to attract and retain talent,” said Sergio Terreros, spokesperson for Expo Contratista. “The Latino Build Show is our contribution to that effort – showcasing talented Latino tradespeople, elevating their work, and inspiring the next generation to pursue meaningful, high-skill careers in the trades.”
Hands-On Education and Career Exposure
Organizers say the Latino Build Show is structured as an immersive experience designed to bridge the gap between exposure and employment.
The showcase will:
- Provide live installation demonstrations from experienced Latino trade professionals
- Offer step-by-step instruction on tools, materials and jobsite techniques
- Connect DIY homeowners and contractors with practical skills training
- Highlight career opportunities for young workers and career changers
- Create a live demonstration platform for manufacturers and building product brands
By combining education, visibility and networking, the initiative aims to promote skilled trades as stable, high-growth career paths — particularly within Latino communities that represent a significant portion of the construction workforce.
“Expo Contratista is committed to supporting the long-term health of the construction workforce,” continued Terreros. “By providing live educational experiences and championing the contributions of Latino professionals, we’re helping to build a future where the industry can thrive.”
Strengthening Industry and Community Ties
Expo Contratista has positioned itself as a leading trade event serving Latino contractors, suppliers and manufacturers. The addition of the Latino Build Show expands its mission beyond networking and product showcases into workforce advocacy and skills development.
With demographic shifts reshaping the construction labor pool, initiatives that elevate diverse talent pipelines are increasingly seen as essential to meeting infrastructure and housing demand nationwide.
Organizers say the new feature also provides manufacturers with direct engagement opportunities, allowing brands to demonstrate products in real-time while connecting with skilled professionals and potential recruits.
