Carrier Global Corporation plans to invest more than US$600 million over the next three years in a new manufacturing and engineering centre in Fort Worth, Texas, expanding domestic production capacity for commercial heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment.
The proposed facility will span more than 1 million square feet and is intended to support demand for advanced thermal management systems, including air-cooled and water-cooled commercial chillers. Carrier said the investment follows record backlog levels and growing demand from data centres, healthcare, education and industrial markets.
The Fort Worth centre will increase Carrier’s US manufacturing capacity and strengthen its supply chain footprint. Commercial chillers and other thermal management systems are used in buildings and industrial settings where reliable temperature control is essential, including data centres with substantial cooling requirements.
The company expects the site to begin operations in 2027. Fort Worth was selected for its skilled workforce, established manufacturing base and strategic location, which Carrier said support the facility’s long-term development.
The investment is expected to create 1,500 jobs in advanced manufacturing, engineering and other functions. The development will also include engineering laboratories and dedicated workforce development activities.
Carrier plans to work with local schools and colleges to help prepare workers for skilled manufacturing and engineering roles. The project is located within the wider AllianceTexas business and industrial area, where regional economic development efforts have focused on attracting advanced manufacturing and technology employers.
The new centre is expected to pursue Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification as part of Carrier’s sustainability goals for 2030. The announcement did not specify the certification level the facility will seek or provide a construction completion date beyond the planned start of operations in 2027.
The investment adds manufacturing and engineering capacity for commercial cooling systems at a time when demand is growing across several sectors. The project’s eventual impact will depend on the facility’s delivery, hiring and production ramp-up.
Carrier’s planned investment highlights the growing importance of cooling equipment and thermal management in data centres and other large facilities. For the construction industry, the development represents a major industrial project with potential demand for building construction, engineering, equipment installation and related services.
The planned 1,500 jobs and education partnerships also place workforce development among the project’s key components, alongside expanded domestic manufacturing capacity.
