Concord Green Energy Acquires 210 MW Golden South Wind Project in Saskatchewan

Highlights

  • Concord Green Energy, the renewable energy division of Concord Pacific, has acquired the Golden South Wind Project near Assiniboia, Saskatchewan.
  • The facility has 50 wind turbines, 210 MW of installed capacity and 200 MW of contracted capacity.
  • Golden South has operated commercially since March 2022 under a 25-year power purchase agreement with SaskPower.
  • The acquisition lifts Concord Green Energy's operating portfolio to approximately 543 MW of installed renewable generation capacity.
  • Potentia Renewables Inc. will continue to manage day-to-day operations at the site.

A change of ownership at one of Saskatchewan's largest operating wind facilities adds a new institutional owner to the province's renewable generation sector. Concord Green Energy has acquired the Golden South Wind Project, a utility-scale installation near Assiniboia that is the province's largest operating wind project by turbine count and installed capacity.

Golden South Facility Scope

Golden South consists of 50 wind turbines with a combined installed capacity of 210 MW. Of that, 200 MW is contracted. The project began commercial operations in March 2022 and sells power to SaskPower under a long-term, 25-year power purchase agreement. Its annual output is equivalent to the electricity needs of up to 100,000 homes.

Potentia Renewables Inc., which has held the project since it began generating power, will stay on as operator. The same team will handle day-to-day operations, including work with landowners, SaskPower and the local community in the Rural Municipalities of RM 72 and RM 73.

Portfolio Growth for Concord Green Energy

Concord Green Energy develops wind, solar, hydroelectric and energy storage projects across Canada. Its operating assets and projects under development together represent more than 1 GW of renewable capacity. With Golden South, its operating portfolio reaches approximately 543 MW of installed generation capacity and its wind business grows substantially in scale.

Concord Pacific, the parent organization, is best known as a developer of master-planned communities across Canada. Concord Green Energy's role as an owner, operator and developer of renewable energy infrastructure sits alongside that core business.

Concord Pacific also plans to continue the Golden South Wind Community Benefit Fund, which supports local programs and organizations in the Assiniboia region.

Ownership Implications for Saskatchewan Energy Infrastructure

For owners and investors, the transaction shows operating wind assets under long-term utility contracts changing hands, with the existing operator retained to maintain continuity at the site. Contractors and service providers working at Golden South can expect operations and landowner relationships to stay with the current Potentia team. Concord Green Energy describes the acquisition as a larger platform for continued investment in Canadian renewable infrastructure, though no specific new projects were identified.
