The multi-year program has a total potential value of up to $270 million CAD and represents one of the largest architecture and engineering source list initiatives issued by Defence Construction Canada.

Under the contract structure, AECOM will provide multidisciplinary planning, design and construction support services for a variety of defense-related infrastructure assets across Canada. The work may include aircraft maintenance facilities, operational buildings, accommodations, vehicle maintenance infrastructure, training centers and secure office environments.

The agreement also includes long-range planning and asset management services intended to support recapitalization efforts across Canada’s military infrastructure network.

What This Means For Construction Owners

For contractors, consultants and project owners, the award signals continued growth in defense-sector construction spending as governments increase investment in operational readiness, infrastructure resilience and modernization initiatives.

Defense construction programs have become an increasingly significant market segment for architecture, engineering and construction firms as NATO member nations expand military investment and replace aging facilities with more technically advanced infrastructure.

Industry analysts note that military infrastructure projects often require specialized expertise in security, operational continuity, sustainability and accelerated project delivery, creating opportunities for firms with established federal and defense-sector experience.

AECOM said the program will incorporate advanced energy modeling, sustainability strategies and life-cycle asset planning into facility development efforts. These capabilities are becoming more prominent in government procurement processes as agencies seek to balance security requirements with long-term operational efficiency and emissions reduction targets.

The contract includes an initial three-year term with options for two additional one-year extensions.

For public-sector owners, the source list structure is intended to streamline procurement by prequalifying firms capable of handling technically complex assignments and rapid-response delivery requirements.

The award further strengthens AECOM’s position within North America’s defense infrastructure market, where demand continues to rise for modernization programs involving aviation support facilities, training environments, resilient utilities and secure operational campuses.

Construction executives are also closely monitoring defense-related infrastructure spending as governments across North America prioritize strategic asset upgrades amid evolving geopolitical and national security concerns.
