The City of Anderson is preparing to unveil the newly reconstructed Linley Park at a grand opening event scheduled for Friday, June 27 at 9 a.m., following an extensive $13 million revitalization aimed at modernizing infrastructure and enhancing the park’s usability for future generations.

Construction crews and landscapers have been hard at work in recent days finishing the final touches, including new crosswalks, trail connections, playground equipment, and stormwater features. A prominent section of the park, affectionately dubbed “The Peanut” for its shape, is expected to be completed shortly after the opening. It serves as a transition zone between the lower park and upper walking trail areas.
Multiple upgrades are evident throughout the park—from the installation of security cameras near the new playground to the reconstruction of natural drainage features along the creek. A solar-powered flashing crosswalk sign now guides visitors from Club Drive safely into the park.
Two outdated ballfields were cleared to make way for more inclusive green space and reimagined pathways. Older culverts were removed, and new infrastructure was added to better manage runoff and reduce flooding, which had long been a concern in the park’s low-lying areas.

According to the City of Anderson,
“The project is funded by a mix of federal grants and reinvestment of our community's Hospitality Tax.”
Planning for the reconstruction began years ago with community engagement events, including forums where residents were invited to provide input on the redesign. One such session took place in October 2022, where Anderson Recreation Director Bobby Beville explained how the new layout emphasizes natural water flow, improved walkability, and open-access landscaping.
“The new design would have natural drain runoff, similar to how they did the upper part of the park,” Beville told residents at the time.
Throughout construction, Anderson residents observed the transformation with anticipation. In April 2024, demolition crews removed aging infrastructure and outdated trees to make room for more sustainable plantings and expanded recreation zones.
Longtime visitors will now experience a park that reflects both its historical charm and the city’s commitment to resilience and accessibility. The project also includes ADA-compliant paths, gazebos for community gatherings, and enhanced safety lighting.
The park’s reopening marks a significant milestone in Anderson’s broader effort to modernize public spaces while addressing the environmental challenges of urban stormwater management. Local families, civic leaders, and visitors are expected to gather at the grand opening as Linley Park begins its next chapter as a centerpiece of downtown community life.
