Auburn Engineering alumnus Jeff Stone, ’79 civil engineering, has been named to the Alabama Construction Hall of Fame.
Stone has spent his career with Brasfield & Gorrie, holding multiple senior leadership roles. He helped guide major health care, industrial and commercial projects throughout Alabama and the region, including work at Auburn University. He’s also been involved with Auburn’s Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, supporting engineering education through industry engagement, mentorship and advocacy for preparing the next generation of construction and engineering professionals.
He and his wife, Linda, live in Birmingham and have been lifelong Auburn fans. The couple met while studying on the Plains, and their parents and three children attended the university. Stone retired from Brasfield & Gorrie in 2024 after a 45-year career with the general contracting giant.

When he started at the company, it was ranked in the top 400 general contractors in the nation. By the time he retired, it was in the top 25. He still consults with the company and maintains an office despite stepping down as executive vice president.
Stone’s rise within Brasfield & Gorrie mirrored the company’s own expansion into one of the nation’s most respected contractors. Over the course of his tenure, he helped oversee signature projects in the health care, higher education and industrial sectors, strengthening the firm’s presence across the Southeast. Colleagues credit his steady leadership and commitment to client relationships as key factors in the company’s long-term growth.
Beyond individual projects, Stone became known as a mentor to young engineers and project managers, encouraging innovation while preserving the company’s culture of craftsmanship and safety. His continued consulting role reflects the value the firm still places on his institutional knowledge.
Stone has served on the Civil Engineering Advisory Board; the Auburn Alumni Engineering Council, including as chair; the Auburn University Foundation, which he also chaired; the Engineering Campaign Committee; and the Tigers Unlimited Council. He played a major role in the creation of the Auburn Engineering Young Alumni Council.
Throughout his career, Stone remained deeply connected to Auburn University, advocating for stronger collaboration between academia and the construction sector. University leaders have noted that his efforts helped expand internship pathways, scholarship support and industry-sponsored learning opportunities for engineering students.
His induction into the Alabama Construction Hall of Fame recognizes not only his professional accomplishments but also decades of service to workforce development and education. The honor places him among a select group of builders who have shaped Alabama’s built environment and construction culture.
He will be inducted into the hall of fame by the Alabama Associated General Contractors alongside Ben Nevins, of BL Harbert International.
