A new 200-bed behavioral health facility in Midland, Texas, expands access to mental health treatment and related services across the Permian Basin. Robins & Morton marked the project's completion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 6.
The Permian Basin Behavioral Health Center represents a $232 million investment on a 54-acre site. The facility is designed to accommodate both short- and long-term treatment for patients across age groups.
The center includes a crisis stabilization unit, an outpatient center, specialized amenities and a community education center. The combination of inpatient, outpatient and community-oriented functions provides multiple levels of behavioral health services within the facility.
The Texas Facilities Commission developed the project, while a newly established entity jointly sponsored by Midland County Hospital District and Ector County Hospital District will operate the center.
Funding came from the State of Texas along with contributions from individuals and charitable organizations throughout the Permian Basin.
Robins & Morton served as general contractor, and HKS provided architectural services.
The completion adds substantial behavioral health capacity in the Permian Basin through a purpose-built facility combining inpatient treatment, crisis stabilization, outpatient care and education services. For healthcare owners and construction stakeholders, the project also demonstrates the scale and complexity involved in delivering specialized behavioral health infrastructure.
