The Construction Industry Round Table (CIRT) has announced the appointment of Robert Corey Clayborne as its new president, marking a significant leadership transition for the organization. Clayborne will officially assume the role on April 1, 2026, succeeding longtime president Mark Casso, who led the organization for nearly three decades before his passing in 2025.
Bringing more than 20 years of experience in architecture, organizational leadership, and industry strategy, Clayborne steps into the role at a time when the construction sector is navigating rapid change, technological transformation, and evolving workforce challenges.
"Corey Clayborne is exactly the kind of leader CIRT needs as we look to the future," said Thomas V. Reilly, president of Turner Construction Company and chairman of the CIRT board. "His record of driving meaningful results in complex organizations, combined with his deep roots in the design and construction industry, make him well prepared to advance CIRT's mission."
Clayborne most recently served as a senior executive at the American Institute of Architects, where he oversaw education, research, and knowledge initiatives for the organization’s national membership. In that capacity, he led strategic programs that strengthened professional development offerings while achieving notable revenue growth.
"It is a tremendous honor and privilege to be selected as President of the Construction Industry Round Table," Clayborne said. "This organization brings together leaders who are shaping the future of the built environment, and I look forward to working with our members to address the challenges facing our industry and drive meaningful progress on the opportunities ahead."
His earlier leadership experience includes serving as CEO of AIA Virginia and more than a decade as a practicing architect and project manager, giving him a well-rounded perspective across both design and construction operations.
"I am confident that Corey will inspire our membership and provide strong leadership as CIRT continues to address important issues facing the design, engineering, and construction industry," said Greg Kelly, chief executive officer of STV and incoming chairman of the CIRT board.
Clayborne’s appointment reflects a broader shift within the construction sector toward integrated leadership that blends design, policy, and business strategy. His background in education, innovation, and organizational management positions him to guide discussions around workforce development, sustainability, and digital transformation.
CIRT, known for convening top executives across the built environment, plays a key role in shaping national dialogue on infrastructure investment, regulatory challenges, and industry best practices. With increasing pressure on the sector to modernize and deliver resilient infrastructure, leadership continuity and vision are becoming critical.

The transition comes at a pivotal moment for the U.S. construction industry, which is experiencing:
Clayborne’s experience at AIA—particularly in knowledge management and professional development—could influence how CIRT members approach talent development and innovation.
Additionally, his recognition as a Fellow of the AIA highlights his contributions to advancing architectural practice, a distinction held by a small percentage of professionals in the field.
As CIRT moves forward under new leadership, industry observers expect a continued emphasis on collaboration among contractors, designers, and policymakers to address complex infrastructure challenges nationwide.
