Construction Area Expands for Paducah Riverfront Development

Caroline Raffetto

The construction area for the Paducah Riverfront Project is expanding, with the new work zone adjacent to the current construction site, which is located on the river side of the floodwall between the floodwall openings on North 2nd Street and Executive Boulevard. Crews are scheduled to install storm sewer pipes in this newly expanded section. The closure will remain in place for the duration of the work, which is expected to continue through the fall of this year.

"The expanded closure is necessary for the installation of the storm sewer pipe, and while it will impact certain areas, we are committed to minimizing disruptions," said a spokesperson for the Paducah Riverfront Project.

Despite the expanded construction zone, key areas remain accessible. The parking areas for the hotel and the Convention Center will not be affected by the closure. Additionally, the Greenway Trail, a popular spot for pedestrians and cyclists, will remain open throughout the construction.

However, due to construction boundaries, vehicular access will be restricted. Vehicles are prohibited from traveling between the Convention Center complex and the transient dock area. For those navigating the area, the floodwall openings at Executive Boulevard and at the intersection of North 2nd Street and Madison Street remain open to the public. Meanwhile, the Harrison Street floodwall opening is designated as a construction entrance and is closed to the general public.

"We ask that visitors and locals alike respect the construction boundaries and remain aware of the changes to traffic patterns as we work to improve the riverfront," the spokesperson added.

This expansion of the construction zone marks another significant phase of the Paducah Riverfront Project, which aims to revitalize the city's waterfront and enhance its appeal as a destination for residents and tourists alike.

The work being done as part of the riverfront redevelopment is expected to bring long-term benefits to Paducah, creating new infrastructure that will contribute to the city's growth. Officials are also working to ensure that all affected businesses and local residents are kept informed of updates throughout the project.
