San Antonio International Airport is set to begin construction on its new $1.4 billion Terminal C on December 10, 2024, as part of a 20-year, $2.5 billion redevelopment project that was approved in 2021. The redevelopment aims to transform the Texas-based aviation hub, with Hensel Phelps selected as the planning and general contractor for the new terminal.
In addition to the terminal, Hensel Phelps will oversee the construction of a multi-story transportation center, road expansions, and the installation of a new customs inspection area. Updates to utilities and demolition work are also part of the scope.
Terminal C will feature 17 gates spread across a 832,000 square-foot (77,295 m²) area, nearly doubling the existing terminal space.
Under a manager-at-risk contract, Hensel Phelps' $1 billion cap means that the contractor will bid out around 85% of the project work. The terminal's design comes from Texas-based firms Corgan and Lake Flato.
The new Terminal C is scheduled to open in 2028, while the airport's broader 20-year development plan is slated to run through 2040.
