According to on-site observations, shrub and foliage removal has begun, signaling the start of construction activity. The cleared area is located in a backstage section behind Pixar Pier and the Incredicoaster, consistent with reporting from mid-2025 that identified the future attraction’s location.

Behind construction gates, workers have begun removing landscaping elements, with only minimal ground disruption visible so far. While large-scale excavation has not yet started, the presence of cleared vegetation suggests additional site preparation work is expected in the coming weeks as construction ramps up.

The attraction was officially announced during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Anaheim in 2024, though Disney has yet to release full ride details. At the time, it was indicated that the experience could follow Miguel’s journey into the Land of the Dead, potentially featuring animatronic figures of characters from the film. No further specifics regarding ride system, opening timeline, or show elements have been confirmed.

The new “Coco” attraction will expand Disney California Adventure’s lineup of immersive, story-driven experiences based on Pixar properties, reinforcing the park’s ongoing transformation with new rides, reimagined spaces, and enhanced storytelling. Its placement near Pixar Pier positions the attraction within one of the park’s most heavily themed areas, though how it will visually integrate with surrounding attractions remains to be seen.

As construction progresses, additional details—including concept art, ride layout, and projected opening date—are expected to be released by Disney. Until then, the initial landscaping work offers the first tangible sign that development of the “Coco” attraction is officially underway.
