ALBERTVILLE, Ala. — A long-anticipated project to expand Albertville’s family entertainment offerings is officially underway, as city officials and developers broke ground on a massive new 30,000-square-foot venue on Wednesday. The facility, called Alleyway Entertainment, will be located near Mathis Mill and Bolinger Street, and is expected to draw visitors from across North Alabama.

The center, developed by Don Spurlin in partnership with the City of Albertville, aims to become a regional hub for all-ages recreation. Amenities will include:
- 20 lanes of bowling
- Axe throwing
- Bumper cars
- Laser tag and a laser maze
- Golf simulators
- A virtual reality (VR) arcade
- 5D theaters offering immersive, multi-sensory movie experiences
- A full-service restaurant
- Private party rooms for events and celebrations
During the groundbreaking ceremony, Albertville Mayor Tracy Honea reflected on the project's long journey to reality.
“An entertainment center of this caliber will be an excellent enhancement to our city’s quality of life,” Honea said. “It will be a complement to Sand Mountain Park & Amphitheater, Lucas Cinemas, and the area’s other outstanding family entertainment and hospitality options.”
He also praised developer Don Spurlin for his unwavering commitment over the years.
“Thank you for never giving up and keeping this development—not only alive—but bringing it from concept to reality,” Honea said.
The project is seen as a strategic step in Albertville’s broader goal to boost tourism, economic growth, and local recreation infrastructure. Once completed, Alleyway Entertainment is expected to create new jobs and increase foot traffic to nearby businesses and attractions.
Developer Don Spurlin emphasized the collaborative nature of the development and its importance to local families.
“We’re excited to see this project finally become a reality after years of planning and collaboration. The citizens of Albertville deserve a safe, family-friendly entertainment center—one with multiple venues that people of all ages can enjoy,” Spurlin said.
He also expressed appreciation for Albertville’s Economic Development Director Mike Price and business partner Bill Kellen for their support in pushing the project forward.
Construction is expected to continue into next year, with a grand opening date to be announced in the coming months. City officials hinted that the complex could serve as a key venue for seasonal events and community gatherings once operational.
In addition to boosting Albertville’s entertainment footprint, the center represents a significant private-public partnership that city leaders say could serve as a model for future developments.
