LEWISTON — The City of Lewiston has enlisted Halme Construction, Inc. to initiate Phase 1 of a significant new Raw Water Intake project, located east of the city limits along the Clearwater River. Site preparation is set to begin on Monday, March 24, with active construction scheduled to start on April 7.

As part of the construction process, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) shared-use pathway will be temporarily closed. This closure will affect the trail from the parking areas across from Vista Road on the east end, extending to Hatwai Junction on the west end.

In an official statement, city officials noted, “As with all construction, unforeseen conditions could alter our construction schedule.” The city is asking for the public’s understanding and cooperation during this period and reassured residents that efforts will be made to minimize any disruptions.

The Raw Water Intake project is a critical infrastructure improvement aimed at enhancing the city’s water supply system. Once completed, it will ensure a more reliable and sustainable source of raw water for the city, helping to meet the growing needs of the community in the years to come.

The City of Lewiston is committed to keeping residents informed throughout the construction process. Updates regarding the project’s timeline and any potential changes to the construction schedule will be provided as necessary.

In the meantime, the public is encouraged to use alternative routes while the shared-use pathway is closed. The city appreciates the cooperation of all residents and visitors during the construction phase, as the project is expected to bring long-term benefits to the city’s water infrastructure.

Additional Details on the Raw Water Intake Project

The Raw Water Intake is a vital project designed to increase the capacity and reliability of Lewiston’s water supply system. This intake structure will help the city tap into the Clearwater River more efficiently, securing an essential resource for local residents and businesses.

The construction will be carried out in multiple phases, with Phase 1 focusing on site preparation, infrastructure setup, and initial excavation. Additional phases will follow, eventually completing the intake system. Once fully operational, the Raw Water Intake will be crucial for ensuring a long-term, stable water supply, especially during periods of high demand.

Construction will adhere to strict environmental and safety guidelines, with oversight from both local authorities and federal agencies, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The project is designed not only to meet the immediate needs of the city but also to prepare Lewiston for future growth and development.
