The awards program honors excellence in building, renovation, collaboration and leadership within Connecticut’s construction industry. This year, Downes was recognized for projects in New London, Bloomfield and East Hartford, spanning large-scale new construction and impactful renovation work.
“Since 2004, AGC of Connecticut has been proud to honor member construction firms, like Downes Construction, through the Build CT Awards program,” said John Butts, executive director of the Associated General Contractors of Connecticut. “These awards celebrate the people, projects and partnerships that continue to shape Connecticut’s built environment and strengthen our communities. Each honoree represents the highest standards of professionalism, innovation and leadership in our industry.”
Company leaders said collaboration played a central role in each project’s success, with teams working closely alongside owners, architects, consultants and local stakeholders to ensure that each space would deliver long-term value.
“We’re honored to have these projects recognized by AGC CT,” said Dave Patrick, president and CEO of Downes Construction. “Each of these spaces reflects what’s possible when owners, designers and builders work together with a shared commitment to the communities they serve. We’re proud of the partnerships behind this work and the lasting impact these projects will have across Connecticut.”
The New London Community Recreation Center earned top recognition in the CM/GC New Large Construction category for projects exceeding $30 million.
Designed as a multi-use facility, the recreation center supports health, wellness and community engagement. The building provides flexible spaces for fitness programs, events and neighborhood gatherings, reinforcing its role as a hub for residents of all ages. Project leaders emphasized that steady coordination among city officials, contractors and community partners helped bring the vision to life efficiently and effectively.
The Bloomfield Public Library–Prosser Library renovation was honored in the CM/GC Mid-Size Renovation category for projects between $10 million and $30 million.
The upgraded library features expanded gathering areas and a dedicated Community Room designed for meetings, workshops and public events. The facility achieved LEED Silver certification, underscoring a commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency. Officials say the renovation positions the library to better serve evolving community needs while strengthening its role as a civic cornerstone.
The Goodwin University Nursing Simulation Center was recognized in the CM/GC Small Renovation category for projects under $10 million.

Located at Goodwin University, the fifth-floor simulation center provides hands-on, immersive training environments for nursing students and future healthcare professionals. The facility is designed to replicate real-world clinical settings, supporting workforce development and preparing graduates to meet growing healthcare demands across the region.
Across all three award-winning projects, Downes Construction emphasized quality craftsmanship, long-term durability and community-centered design. From recreation and literacy to healthcare education, the recognized facilities reflect broader investments in public infrastructure and workforce readiness.
Industry observers note that the Build Connecticut Awards highlight not just finished buildings, but the partnerships and innovation required to complete complex projects successfully. For Downes Construction, this year’s recognition reinforces its reputation as a leading builder committed to both technical excellence and community impact throughout Connecticut.
