Virginia Tech has announced a new phase of exterior renovations affecting the Holtzman Alumni Center and the Inn at Virginia Tech, initiating a nearly yearlong series of construction impacts designed to enhance the facilities and surrounding outdoor spaces. According to the Division of Facilities, the renovations are part of ongoing efforts to improve campus infrastructure, guest services, and the overall visitor experience.

To support the upcoming work, “the courtyard area and adjacent exterior doors located on the west side of the Holtzman Alumni Center and Inn at Virginia Tech will be temporarily unavailable from Monday, Dec. 1, 2025 - Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026.” This closure will affect pedestrian circulation around the site and will require guests, staff, and students to adjust their typical travel routes.
Campus officials noted that individuals working or visiting the buildings should anticipate some disruptions commonly associated with construction. As stated in the notice, “During this time, building occupants may notice elevated contractor presence and experience typical construction-related noise.” This activity will occur during planned working hours to minimize broader campus impact.

The Division of Facilities also emphasized that the exterior renovations will follow a set daily schedule. “Please note that exterior work will take place from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.” The defined time window aims to concentrate noise and activity within consistent weekday hours, reducing interference with evening events and weekend functions at the Inn and Alumni Center.
While the courtyard area remains closed, the university is encouraging pedestrians to use the Interactive Campus Map to identify alternate routes and accessible pathways around the construction zone. This resource will be particularly helpful for campus visitors unfamiliar with detours or temporary closures.
Questions regarding the project may be directed to the facilities team at vtrepair@vt.edu, providing a central point of contact for updates, clarifications, and campus guidance throughout the renovation period.
With both the Holtzman Alumni Center and the Inn serving as key venues for alumni gatherings, events, lodging, and university hospitality, the renovation work is expected to deliver long-term improvements once completed. Though the temporary inconveniences will span nearly ten months, university officials maintain that the upgrades will ultimately strengthen the campus experience for the thousands of visitors who rely on these facilities throughout the year.
